The young vervet monkey refused to release grip of its mother after the predator pounced at Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, despite putting itself in grave danger. The leopards, led by a female named Olimba, killed the juvenile during the hunt on October 14.

‘Nature is not always attractive, and this picture clearly reminds us the cruel truth of life,’ said wildlife photographer Shafeeq Mulla of Chipata, Zambia, who captured the heartbreaking incident on camera.
