A baby named Sayby managed to survive despite the gloomiest forecasts of doctors. She is the smallest female baby in the world.

Medium sized apple. Juice box. Baby Seibi. All of them have one thing in common – weight. The girl was born when her mother was 23 weeks pregnant. To be exact, 23 weeks and 3 days.

Sayby’s mother did not particularly complain about her well-being. Well, yes, she was not well, but she was sure: this is normal, ᴍᴀʟᴀɪsᴇ is an eternal companion of pregnancy. But during the next examination, the doctors simply did not let her go home.

“I was told that I have ᴘʀᴇᴇᴄʟᴀᴍᴘsɪᴀ (a ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀᴏᴜs ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ during pregnancy, accompanied by a sᴇᴠᴇʀᴇ ʜᴇᴀᴅᴀᴄʜᴇ and ʜɪɢʜ ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ, that ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴛᴇɴs ᴍɪsᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇ and the ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ of the mother and ꜰᴇᴛᴜs, approx. ed.). But nothing happened. As it turned out, hospital scales simply do not fix weights less than 300 grams. And Saybie weighed 245.

“The heartbeat was very strong. And, fortunately, we were able to insert a ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴛᴜʙᴇ,” says Dr. Paul Wozniak, the neonatologist who saved Sayby’s life.

The girl was immediately taken to the ɪɴᴛᴇɴsɪᴠᴇ ᴄᴀʀᴇ ᴜɴɪᴛ. The parents were told that the doctors were doing everything possible, but there was no hope. Sayby’s father and mother were given only an hour to look at their baby. Then she had to ᴅɪᴇ.

But the hour dragged on for two, then for the whole day, one more, weeks, then months – Seiby desperately fought for life. As well as the doctors who did everything to save the girl.

“The first week of Saybie’s life was very bad. We were very lucky that there was no ʙʟᴇᴇᴅɪɴɢ ᴏʀ ɪɴꜰᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ʙʀᴀɪɴ, in such a situation, we did not rule out this, “explains Dr. Wozniak.

The baby remained in the ɪɴᴛᴇɴsɪᴠᴇ ᴄᴀʀᴇ ᴜɴɪᴛ for five months. But recently, she was discharged.

“I still consider it a miracle. When I was studying, babies born before 28 weeks didn’t survive. They didn’t even try to save them. But times have changed, and technology is evolving. Saybie is an incredible combination of medical skill and luck. Not every child of this weight is able to survive. Let’s hope that it will continue without ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs, “the doctor added.

Meanwhile, the registry of the smallest newborns, the Tiniest Babies Registry, has updated statistics. It turned out that Seibi is the smallest female baby who managed to survive after a premature birth. Before her, the girl who was born weighing 252 grams had a palm – a little more, but for a baby, even these grams are of tremendous importance.
