Jennifer Lopez has only gone and given us peak summer hair inspo, thanks to her latest video post on the gram. She showed off a seriously cute baby braids bun while posing with her glam squad.

The hairstyle, created by her long-time hair stylist, Chris Appleton, combines two of this season’s biggest hair trends: baby braids and the off-duty bun. And we are feeling the mash-up.

The baby braids trend sees micro plaits flanking either side of middle partings to add a cool little detail to otherwise ordinary strands. They’re like tendrils – only more intricate to add extra interest to hair. The style is a ‘90s throwback that’s been building momentum since before last summer, with celebrity fans including Dua Lipa, Laura Harrier, Hailey Bieber, Margot Robbie, Jourdan Dunn, Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian.

Meanwhile, the off-duty bun (see also: the model bun, the sleek bun and the spiky bun) has proven itself a hit with models like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Kaia Gerber and celebs like Hilary Duff and Doja Cat. It has a slightly more polished feel than messy buns, and is sleeker across the top and tied tighter into place. Instead of sitting up high like a top knot, we’ve seen it worn lower around the crown or nape of the neck.

Well, JLo’s adorable baby braids bun gave us both and we’re not mad. Even better, the style is perfect for the hot weather we’ve been having and is easy to recreate. Just centre-part your hair, braid the two front sections on either side of your parting, then scoop the rest back into a neat bun for the cutest summer hairstyle.
