7 New Houseplants Grown from Kitchen Scraps

As usual, most people often use edible portions like stems and leaves and discard the maintain. According to some ways, you can start a garden using the organic waste in your home. Re-growing them to have free edible houseplants.

#1 Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is an easy-to-grow plant. Its fresh leaves bring a lot of health benefits. You can regrow it again by repotting it into a new pot. Once mature, it will produce new pups, and you also have many young plants for every room.

#2 Lettuce

Lettuce is a green salad vegetable that can be regrown from its base. To do this, put the base of the lettuce into a bowl with a ½ inch of water. Set it in a place that gets direct sunlight for a few days until its new roots appear. Then, you can move your lettuce plant to the soil to continue growing.

#3 Beetroot

Beetroots are packed with nutrients and easy to grow, so, there is no reason you don’t grow this taproot. Its leaves are edible and also full of flavorful. You can grow this veggie in the garden or in containers, even as an edible houseplant its scraps. Simply, cut off the top of the beets, and place them in a cup/ bowl with some water. Don’t forget to give the new plant sunlight, and a sunny windowsill is an ideal position for its happy growth.

#4 Green Onions

After using the green leaves of onions, you can have free food in the future. Take at least an inch attached to the roots of your leftover scallion roots, put them in a small glass of water, then your scallions will flourish in about 5 days.

#5 Lemon

Lemon is a fruit tree and also is a lucky plant according to Feng Shui. Growing it indoors will bring a positive aura to your living space. So, if you want to grow a lemon tree as a houseplant, you just prepare a lemon with non-germinating seeds, nutrient-rich potting soil, and a planting pot that is 6″ wide and 6″ deep, and then place it in a sunny location. Also, give it water regularly with a moderate amount of water.

#6 Pineapple

Regrowing Pineapple is quite simple! Simply, cut the flowery “crown” of pineapple, which is an inch below the leaves. Then, trim around the bottom until you see little brownish bumps, which are the root buds. Place the cutting in a shallow bowl of water. When the roots start appearing at the cutting, transform the young plant into a container with soil or garden. Give it in a bright, warm place with as much direct sunlight as possible, and water once a week.

#7 Avocado

This nutritious fruit also can be regrown from its seed. After sprouting the pit move it into the soil and let it grow.
